Singles Apartment Building in Miller Park

Walking by the Miller Park building photographed above (on East Thomas between 18th and 19th Ave), I have often thought that it resembled the Singles building. And, today I found corroboration (from Wikipedia and Andrew Taylor, a more authoritative source even - see his comment below) that this building is indeed thought to be the apartment buiding where Bridget Fonda's character and others lived . If you have not seen Singles and you live in Seattle - especially Capitol Hill - you should go rent it. The film does a great job of capturing the grunge era in Seattle and it is directed by Cameron Crowe - who apparently was in town last month to direct Pearl Jam. Janet Maslin's New York Times review from September 1992 captures some of what's likable about the film in the opening paragraph:

"Does everybody go through this?" asks a voice heard at the end of "Singles," Cameron Crowe's buoyant, utterly charming look at a small sample of Seattle's young, unmarried population. "Nah," comes the answer. "I think just us."

I can confirm that it was indeed the building. Saw them filming there, and took a couple of pictures (which must be around somewhere).

We also all got to "enjoy" the helicopter hovering overhead all evening as it filmed one of the closing shots in the film in which (I am told) you can see the Miller tennis courts. Guess I'd better rent it. Off to netflix we go!

Yes. the closing scene shows a great panning out from the building then looking all over Seattle. It is worth renting. I bought it. Its a cute love story but funny & OK. The Seattle shots are cool. I recall all the old OK Hotel shots. Damn those were the days. Seeing Nirvana there and many others. I was so sad when that place was damaged closed by the Nisqually Earthquake I think it was?

When I first moved here, 13/14 yrs ago, one of the first guys I went on only one date with had to drive us by there to show me where the movie was shot cuz he thought it was cool. They put in and took out the fountain just for the movie that was in the middle of the courtyard. They should've left it. It's such a cool looking building and looks a bit run down these days.. always makes me a little sad that it's not kept up like it should be. Love that movie.
