Victrola Reimposes Ban on Weekend Wi-Fi

Be warned - after a year long respite, Victrola customers will (once again) not be able to park & surf on their laptops on weekends. For those of you needing a Wi-fi fix, stop by at Hillside Quickie - they have free Wi-fi.

why do coffee shops not have wi-fi on weekends? is it because people camp out for too long?

That's part of it - here's what Victrola said when they first did this back in 2005 (can't believe it made the NYT)

i haven't liked the vibe at victrola for a long time. there are tons of other great options with free wifi just down the street tho - northhill bakery, liberty, the canterbury...!

Caffe Ladro (a few doors North of Victrola) has free wi-fi and (I think) better coffee.

Thanks Wesa - I know you've pointed out Ladro before - I just forgot that they had free wifi

Trish - I forgot all those other locations that have free wifi :) Thanks for chiming in

Vivace Brix apparently has this going on too. I wont go there on weekends. It seems archaic not to have wi-fi these days.

Victrola disappeared from my mental map of coffee shops the last time they enacted this policy.

There are so many other coffeehouses without the neo-Luddite sensibilities of Victrola, I forgot they were even still doing business.
