Cafe Stellina Lunch

I finally had the opportunity to lunch at Cafe Stellina yesterday. Though it was much beloved as a breakfast and lunch cafe at its old location at 20th & Union, Stellina has drawn mixed reviews since moving to its newer location near 12th & Pike. Overall, this is a great sunny spot for home-style comfort food. As I walked in for a late lunch, I was greeted by Teri Esensten (formerly worked front-of-the-house at Cafe Campagne and The Ruins) and invited to sit where I liked. Teri's husband, Mike Cicon (formerly a sommelier at The Ruins) was the waiter. Lunch started off promisingly with potato bread and hummus. I ordered the Hominy Stew with Tomatoes and Chiles ($12) and a glass of Portugese red ($5). For me Cafe Stellina gets the small things right - a limited menu with great choices for pescatorians, crisp white napkins and a stylish setting. It also has free wi-fi and is a nice place to lunch with kids (warning Izilla Toys is right next door). Incidentally, the cafe is named after Teri and Mike's daughter Stella.

Hours of Operation:
Mon-Tue 11am-3pm, Wed-Fri 11am-3pm, 5pm-10pm, Sat 5pm-10pm
